The ultimate guide to getting your best curly–coily haircut with PRO expert, Alifia

Hair is personal, so that nervous feeling before your next cut is totally understandable. To make the most of your visit (and avoid any mishaps) here are my tips for getting your best cut.

find the right stylist
Working with the right stylist can make or break your session. Look for a PRO that has experience cutting and styling your specific curl pattern. Not sure about yours? Get the guide to finding your curl type here.
I like to scout for potential stylists on social media or get recommendations from friends with similar hair textures. Check their social feeds or websites for similar looks and cuts to what you’re going for. These are great inspo pics to screenshot for your appointment!
consultation time
Once you’ve picked a stylist, take time to think on your current crown, and where you want it to be. Many stylists are open to booking a consultation, so you can talk through any questions, goals, and expectations.
Here are some questions I go over with my clients:
What kind of look are you going for? Got inspiration pics?
What’s the general state of your hair? Dry, buildup, damaged, shedding?
What’s your current routine?
What’s your lifestyle like? Do you work out? Need an easy-to-rock look?
How to prep before your appointment. Come clean? Natural? Pre-stretched?
Any preferences for our session? Quiet? Gentle? Short on time?
Any questions you have for me?
We’re all here for the same end goal (great hair), so this will get you and your stylist on the same page!
speak up
Your session is about YOU, so be empowered to speak up if your stylist is pulling a little too tightly or going in a direction you’re not comfortable with. Having a confidence-boosting experience is so worth it.
Healthy hair is born at the hands of a PRO, so tap into their expertise to perfect your look during your appointment, and at home. Whether that’s asking what products they recommend, or how to DIY this style, they’re here to help.
If you’re in the market, ask them about any add-on treatments or services they offer. Maybe molecular repair or a chelating treatment are the keys to making your inspo pics a reality.
