How K18 x Future Society are making the impossible possible in haircare and scent.
The K18 x Future Society limited-edition scented molecular repair mask was created out of a mutual fascination with the power of biotech and a commitment to reimagining the future of beauty.
“Our mission has always been to turn the impossible into the tangible through biotech,” says K18 founder and CEO Suveen Sahib. “Future Society’s pioneering work doesn’t just reinvent fragrance, it reframes it as a frontier of biology and imagination.”
K18 and Future Society are united by more than just innovation—they share a belief in a bold future, one where we are not solely reliant on draining the Earth’s resources to keep up with trends. In an industry often powered by overconsumption, we’re inspired by how biotech can help do more with less. Every decision at K18—from formulation to sourcing—is driven by a desire to minimize waste and reduce resource strain, while solving real-world problems for consumers.
Biotech reminds us that there are answers to our universal problems all around us (frizz, split ends, and damage among them); we just have to be curious enough to look. The natural world has been creating solutions since the dawn of time.
Biomimetic science has inspired some of the most influential products in our homes and lives today. Velcro was inspired by the way burrs stick to animal fur in the woods. Wind turbines increased their energy efficiency by changing their shape to function like a whale fin. LED lights are modeled after the light-enhancing microsystems found in fireflies.
The same is true for every K18 product.
HeatBounce’s resilicore™ heat-shielding technology? A biology-first innovation inspired by a highly resilient protein found in nature, best known for their ability to stretch more than three times their original length and bounce back hundreds of millions of times while maintaining structural integrity.
The molecular repair hair mask was born of 10 years of research that led to a key discovery: a single peptide sequence that could reconnect broken keratin chains and restore hair’s strength and elasticity. Patented K18PEPTIDE™, mimics hair’s structure, enabling it to click in and repair damage at the molecular level in just 4 minutes*.
Similarly, Future Society reimagines a vibrant collection of extinct flowers through DNA sequencing, bringing biotech and the artistry of world-renowned perfumers together to create something the world has never seen—or smelled—before.
“This isn’t about adding fragrance for fragrance's sake,” says Sahib. “It’s about layering bioscience, care, and creativity into a sensorial and immersive ritual.”
Future Society’s Floating Forest is a scent with a story. Inspired by Shorea cuspidata, a towering rainforest tree once native to Borneo, and lost to logging after 1998. Through biotechnology, scent molecules from the extinct flower were identified and reinterpreted into this aquatic, floral scent.
Creating the Future Society x K18 limited-edition scented mask was a journey; adapting fine fragrance into haircare is by no means simple. It required a lot of trial and error. But now, a forgotten flower blooms again—brought back to life by biotech (just like your hair strength).
