In all seriousness, today we want to talk to you about our name—because we’ve been having some people mistake us for our doppelgängers: the traditional mask and conditioner.  You see, our full name is K18 leave-in molecular repair hair mask. When people see the mask part, they think, “ok, I know how to use this. I got it.” When we tell people to skip conditioner, they think it’s because we are one. All fair points, but we’re just out here trying to make our name known. We’re the world’s first patented biotech treatment and like our users across the globe, we think we have something special to offer.

HAIR MASKS

K18 works a little differently than how you’re used to thinking about a mask. With a typical mask, you use a hefty amount (we’re talking a whole handful) then you coat your hair in the shower, typically leave it on for anywhere from 10-30 minutes, and rinse it out—and voila, softer-feeling hair. Which is cool, but we’re more in the business of overall hair health—not just “healthy looking” or “healthy feeling”, ya feel? 

Let’s talk through some of the steps that might feel counterintuitive at first if you’re used to using traditional hair masks. 

First, you won’t apply this in the shower. This is an after-shower treatment you’ll apply to towel-dried, damp hair. 

Second, it’s a leave-in, so you know leave it in! You’re busy, you don’t have time to get back in the shower and rinse stuff out, so we made sure this mask was a one-step done deal. 

Btw—after you apply and wait the initial 4-minute period for the peptide to activate, you’re good to comb and style as usual, because K18 is already working at the inner-most layers of hair. Which brings us to our next point…

CONDITIONERS

Our other hair world doppelgänger is conditioner. And here’s the elephant in the bathroom—when using K18 you DO NOT condition. 

This is scary, we get it, conditioner is part of almost everyone’s routine. So, we’ll say this, coating the hair in conditioner blocks our peptide from being able to penetrate fully. In the shower use shampoo, skip conditioner, and then apply K18. Are you panicking? Don’t worry, once those 4 minutes are up, you’re good to add in any product like a leave-in conditioner—but many find they don’t need conditioner after using K18. 

We know. Mind-blowing. 

The other thing to remember here is conditioners only work on the cuticle or outside layer of hair. K18 is working at a different place in the hair entirely, think of it like concealer versus retinol. Conditioner is the cover up to make the outside look pretty, K18 is working overtime on a deeper level to restore strength so the outside is actually healthy.
